Chris: I got sick this week, but that was okay, because it happened after (and perhaps due to) the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. The huge lines for signings of Chester Brown’s new book were a TCAF highlight, except when I had to stand in one, and the Comics Journal marked Paying for It‘s release in exhaustive style: multiple reviews, a 1990 interview from their archives, and a freshly-conducted Q&A by Sean Rogers.
Geeta Dayal’s interview with Max Mathews, the late “father of computer music,” is equally comprehensive. Here he is talking about his work at Bell Labs: “Usually the kooks got sent to me; I don’t know why. The prince of Saudi Arabia came by. He wanted to move icebergs from Antarctica to go to the Arabian peninsula as a source of water. I don’t think he ever did it. I don’t think the king, at the end, was willing to support it. But anyway, we talked to him.”
